Unicorn Season is a tragicomedy about how heteronormativity ruins everything – including polyamorous dating.
The game tells a story of three dates for three, is springled with magical (sur)realism and uses comedy to reflect serious topics.
Unicorn Season is part of a series of queerfeminist live action role playing games designed on a working fund from Finnish Cultural Foundation.

About the Design
There are some elements of magical (sur)realism in the game. These are completely normal things for the characters.
This game uses humor as an approach to different ways polyamory can go wrong, especially heteronormativity and poor communication. Since the topics are both real and nasty the comedy in this game becomes quite tragic and black.
The humor is pointed at heteronormativity and poor communication, but also at the characters themselves. Some of the characters are sympathetic, some just evil and the humor pointed at the latter is cruel at parts. The men of the unicorn hunting couples get the biggest hit here.
Players need to be considered and avoid humor that punches down from themselves.
The characters are three couples of unicorn hunters (a cishet man and an afab assumed woman) and three unicorns (assumed women). Unicorn characters are friends with each other.
Unicorn hunting is polyamory slang for an (m&w) couple looking for a bisexual woman to be their girlfriend. The concept in itself is problematic and usually includes a buffet of problematic ideas and dynamics.
Three dates happen at a same time, in three different cafes, with a shared counter and a smoking spot. This is an element of magical (sur)realism.
The dates are doomed to fail. The triads end up trying make something happen, but that is a bad idea and won't work in the end.
There are some restictions to communication in play to underline the theme on poor communication. For example any kind of conflicts can not be addressed in a conscructive manner. They can only be either avoided or if/when that is not possible turned into a confrontational attack.
Unicorns have unicorn magic: a candle that when lit prevents everyone at the table directly lying. This is an element of magical realism.
